Use the actual song performance as the timing source.
A script lyric or an earlier recording may differ from the final sung line.
Establish the song material
Identify the final audio master and an authorized lyric reference. Listen for repeated words, changed order, held notes and breaths. A written lyric can help resolve a word, but it cannot establish which version was sung or exactly when it begins and ends in this edit.
Translate without filling the count
For English subtitles over Chinese singing, keep the meaning and information order with the source screens. Estimated syllables can reveal a large length difference, but they are not a reason to add filler or discard an important image. Natural reading and the actual performance remain the review target.
An original invented lyric
Pack the pan,
roll along.
These words were written for this guide and have no matching recording. They illustrate why a written line alone is not timing evidence.
Retain exceptions
Record verified lyric spellings and repeated refrains in the project glossary. Note any intentional screen split or title-specific exception for the next reviewer. Use the Glossary worksheet and a small representative clip before processing a whole song.
