Caption the musical change that matters to the scene.

A constant generic label can compete with dialogue while telling the viewer very little.

Listen for the dramatic function

Replay the passage and ask what a viewer would miss without the music. An abrupt stop before a response, a clear shift in mood or the start of a song can carry information. The appropriate wording and frequency depend on the recipient profile and the scene, so do not turn every background note into a new caption.

Keep descriptions supported

“Music stops” may be supported by a clear audible event. Naming a specific instrument, song or performer requires additional evidence. An AI sound candidate is a proposal; it should not supply an identity or emotional claim that a reviewer cannot confirm.

Review timing and competition

  1. Locate the change in the final mix.
  2. Decide whether the event affects understanding.
  3. Use concise wording supported by what is heard.
  4. Check its timing alongside dialogue and other SDH cues.

Keep rejected and revised candidates in the review record when useful. Use the Sound decision template to separate evidence, description and keep/revise/remove decisions. The invented examples here are editorial illustrations, not recognition results.
