Review a line break as part of the sentence.
A character count can flag a line, but it cannot decide the best grammatical break.
Keep the screen’s meaning intact
First confirm which source screen this English text belongs to. Then choose line breaks within that same screen. Splitting a sentence across lines is different from moving a thought to another timed subtitle cue. Preserve the source reveal order before optimizing the shape of the text.
An invented example
Before you open the door,
listen for a moment.
The first line keeps the verb and its object together. A break after “the” would leave an article separated from its noun. This example illustrates a reading choice; it is not a universal maximum line length or a timed performance benchmark.
What to compare
- Read the line aloud naturally.
- Look for stranded articles, names and small grammatical units.
- Check the chosen recipient profile’s line count and length requirements.
- Replay the full screen at its actual duration.
Try the line-layout helper without automatic rewriting. It counts Unicode code points, including spaces and punctuation. A layout within your chosen limits can still be awkward or too fast.
